Are You Smarter Than a Sixth Grader?
My daughter represented her sixth grade homeroom in the school spelling bee. Even though she didn't win, I'm really proud of her for all the the hard work she undertook to prepare for the bee. She progressed to the sixth round, missing "cafeteria." All in all, not a bad showing. Here she is before the bee started. As you can tell, she had the mis/fortune of drawing #1 of the contestants.
Here's round one:
I'm still feeling..."odd" and a bit off; might be sinus related. I get these periods of dizziness that are quick and don't knock me off my feet, but they are a bit discombobulating. I'm finally going for the MRI of my abdomen next Tuesday to have the spot on my pancreas investigated. I'm hopeful that the Xanax will do the trick as far as my anxiety. I suppose I'll hear from my doctor on that one within a week. In the meantime, I have a "event recorder" that records when my heart has an "episode." Looks like a pager with four metal feet. I hold it to my chest, hit the record button, and it acts somewhat like an EKG. Then I call a toll-free number and transmit the sound data over the phone. I have the recorder for the next month; I'm hoping to not have to record too many episodes. I've already recorded and transmitted two, and I just got the damn thing last Friday. Ugh.
Kids and chores do not wait for me to feel better, so I soldier on. I think it helps when I'm busy; then I don't dwell on the situation and talk myself into dire circumstances. I've already half convinced myself I have a tumor, cancer, or some other very rare condition. Hey, I already have two - what's one more, right? I hate thinking like that. STOP IT!
On a lighter note, my new laptop has arrived - YAY! I have to wait for hubby to come home this weekend and "do his thing," but at least it's here now. You Mac aficionados will rag on me for not getting a Mac, but I stuck with what I know. To satisfy the curious, I got a Dell Inspiron 1520 in Midnight Blue. Photos will have to come later. I'm just hoping the transition from this laptop to the new one will be smooth.
I may not post again until the weekend (light, humorous fare as usual). Have a great remainder of the week, and a remarkable weekend.
Later daze, y'all.

your daughter tried to spell it Y.U.C.K.Y didn't she?
hope your high tech tracking device makes all well in your force...laughing
midnight blue...I am SO envious.
I'm sure it's just Post Christmas Syndrome ;)
I hope you feel better. Enjoy your new toy.
Congrats to your daughter!
You should be proud of her! Love the video, nice touch.
good luck with the new laptop!
You must be so excited about the laptop! Can't wait to see it!
Congrats to Bonnie Lass! She did great! I probably wouldn't have lasted past the first round!
for me, from 6th grade on when it came to spelling bees, it was all downhill from there.
relax until you feel better and cruise with that laptop!
Hope you feel better and congrats to the kidlet. Cheers!!
Amazing
(A -- M -- A --Z-- I --N --G Amazing!)
that you can send your heart beat over the phone. Wow!
I pray that they will give you positive news on all fronts.
You must be very proud. Spelling is not going so well for my daughter.
My Hubby got a Dell about a year ago and he's been very happy with it.
Hope you're feeling better and having a good week. I haven't heard of a device like that. My 84 year old dad has a pacemaker and a device he hooks up to the phone for monthly tests. Hadn't heard of one you hold to your chest and transmit like that, very interesting. Hope the results are good and you don't have too many "episodes".
Yeah on the laptop! Pictures, definintely! I can drool and long for mine to be fixed and mailed to me soon. I'm going through withdrawal already :)
Have a great week!
Great video of Bonnie Lass! Auntie Ena is SO proud!
I hope you don't have to use that monitor too many times (especially when we're on the phone! I'm thinking "WTF!" I guess it was talking about all our "near misses" in the car that did it! ha!)
I'm glad you got the appointment for the MRI. The Xanax will help - honest!
It's tough to go first. Congrats to your daughter for doing so well.
Have fun with the new laptop.
As for the medical stuff, it's gonna be what it is so don't worry.
Congrats to Bonnie Lass...
feel better....
you missed your chance dear...no viruses...no crashes...and easier to maneuver....
you missed it...but happy for your new computer
My kids use those Macs at school, and they say they like the PC we have at home better. I'd try one, maybe, but it's easier to stick to what's known.
Midnight Blue---that sounds lovely!
I guess I should thank my lucky stars I don't have the medical issues you do! Hope you can feel good this week and month. And have no episodes!
Sometimes I think I need a Xanax!
Congratulations on your daughters participation in the spelling bee. That's lots of work and stress. I so remember.
Yay on the new laptop too. It's so fun to get a new computer. Enjoy.
I hope you feel better soon. Big hug and have a great day and weekend. :)
I used one of those heart thingies once before, but my episodes were so quick, they were over before anything could be recorded. Kinda useless! I hope yours gives them better information so they can help you.
Feel better and take it easy!
oh that is great!! Congrats to your girl.. hope you are feeling better real soon and congrats on your new laptop!!
We're all so proud of her. :)
That's a tough word she had to spell.
I hope you don't have to record too many of those episodes either.
Can't wait to see new lap top photos!!!
Congratulations to your daughter. It takes one more smart cookie to compete in a spelling bee. Good for her.
I'm sorry you're feeling so poorly these days. Sending prayers. Maybe this will take your mind off things.

Grats on that laptop! As for the Mac, I refused to buy one. Kidlet's laptop is a Mac and she HATES it.
Ooo...midnight blue. I got one in lime green and I love it!
That's great your daughter was selected. She didn't win, but it's still awesome she was chosen.
I hope you get better soon and hopefully it's not serious.
