I Knew This Day was Coming...
...and yet I didn't want it to be.
Packers QB Favre to Retire
Brett being one of my all-time favorite NFL QBs (he ranks up there, for me, with Joe Montana and Peyton Manning), Sundays won't quite be the same for me for a while.
Have a great life, Brett. God knows, you and Deanna deserve it.

21 who succumbed to the siren's call:
I am glad he did. He is retiring after a great year, and he can walk away from the game in much better health than many other players. Cheers!!
Matt-Man: I agree - he's going out on top. And he and his family have gone through so much in the past few years, he deserves to be able-bodied and spend more time with his wife and daughters. Still, it won't be the same this fall. I figure Vikings fans all around are having a wild party.
Nice butt.
Oh, like YOU weren't thinking it...
Mo: Yes, it's a fitting tribute to the "end" of his playing career.
Once Randy M resigned with NE, it was inevitable he would retire...
He is a first round HOF'er
Bond: True enough, but I really think he was getting tired of being sore all of the time. Even The Iron Man had to retire at some point, and, as Matt-Man said, Favre was near the top of his game last season. Can't ask for too much more than that. The Pack may be young, but Brett ain't. Now he can enjoy time with his wife and daughters, even if the older one is now college-aged.
A very well deserved retirement...
the news didn´t make it to Germany, yet. I guess we´ll hear it on the sports news tonight.
And yes... definitely a nice piece of a$$ :-)
Sanni: Yes, I'm sure you'll hear about it a bit later; I don't know how popular the American NFL is in Europe, especially now that NFL Europe is defunct.
Glad you like view...*grin*
The fact that he did it now leads me to believe that he's serious about it and he's ready. Now Rodgers can get in and prepare like it's going to be his team, instead of waiting around for Favre to make up his mind.
It caught me off guard. I thought after such a great year, he would give it one more try.
I recall how I felt as twenty-something when my favorite QB's and WR's started retiring and new upstart faces started replacing them. I got really mad.
Now... I've lived through that over and over.
S'long Bret. You were damn good.
Travis: Agreed. I think this is the earliest he's made his decision, which certainly gives credibility to that line of thinking.
Daddy Forever: In some ways I was caught off guard, but I think because I wasn't prepared for him to make the decision this early. As I said in response to Travis, I think this means that he's truly and seriously tired and ready to end it.
Pamela: I'm laughing because I remember the days when Dan Marino was still a rookie. Does that make me show my age?!
(*sigh*) Yep. He was one of the good guys. I'll hate to see him go, but I don't blame him AT.ALL. I just wish there were more like him...
He is second only to Montana in my book. Great QB, hella nice guy.
See, I've never been much of a sports chick, so I really have nothing of any substance to add.
But I do have this question, which has been bugging me for years:
Why the heck is his name pronounced "FaRVe", if it's spelled "FaVRe"????
Still in shock over here. It just won't be the same this fall!
Songbird, I feel terrible too! I watched the game and felt so bad for him...But indeed he's had a GREAT career. He is one of the BEST! :D
It won't be the same without him.
Susan: I know. The lack of people of quality in high profile sports is rather alarming, isn't it? I think they're there, but they don't toot their own horn, and the media doesn't like to play up the good guys.
Starrlight: That's a lofty position. I agree - he deserves it.
Janna: I'm betting it comes from a regional "slaughtering" of names and words that have a French background. Pretty typical for the Southern Mississippi/NOLA region of the country.
Kila: I'm sure the rest of Wisconsin is still reeling as well. This will take a while to sink in.
Teach: While I was really glad the Giants beat those pesky patriots, I was kinda hoping to see Brett back for one more shot. I'm glad he had a glorious last run, though.
Turnbaby: It will be odd, indeed.
I still haven't been able to wrap my head around it. It probably won't hit me until fall. He's been in the league so long, and at our alma mater before that. I'm just so used to hearing and reading about him and seeing him. So sad, I got so choked up when I heard his news conference Thursday. He really got to me!
it makes me feel old....and a little sad.
he's one of the greats....be interesting to see what he does next....
