Manic Monday - Boil

Don't forget to visit our Manic Monday host, Mo, at It's a Blog Eat Blog World

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll be honest - I've never eaten a crawdad/crawfish/crayfish, nor have I have been to a crawfish boil, but this was the first thing of which I thought when I heard that this week's Manic Monday theme was "boil."
Louisiana Crawfish Boil Recipe
Ingredients Needed:
1 (35 to 40 pound) sack live crawfish*
1 (26-ounce) box salt for purging
Water
2 (1 pound) boxes/sacks crawfish or crab or shrimp boil seasoning (see column on left)
6 to 8 lemons, sliced in half
S
mall onions, peeled
S
moked sausage, cut up into large pieces
Whole mushrooms
Small red or new
potatoes, unpeeled
15 to 20 ears of fresh
corn on the cob, shucked and broken in halves
6 heads of garlic, split in half exposing pods
Whole mushrooms
* Use over-night delivery for live crawfish. You should order the crawfish to arrive the day before or the day of your crawfish boil.
Equipment Needed:
  • One large boiling pot (60 to 80 gallon) with basket insert, and lid (you can use your deep-fat turkey fryer - will cook about 10-15 lbs of crawfish per batch)
  • Outdoor high-pressure propane cooker
  • Large tub or two ice chests (depending on the amount of live crawfish)
  • A large paddle for stirring the crawfish.
  • A large picnic table with plenty of newspapers to cover it, several rolls of paper towels, and a large garbage can.
Catered a wedding one time many years ago where the theme was all things cajun. It was a second wedding for each of them so they wern't into the white gown and all. It was a let your hair down and have some fun type of event.
Your picture reminded me of that. Sorry for my long absence. Hope your doing well now that your feet are firmly planted on the ground again. The flight sounded a bit rough.
I've never had crawfish, but am intrigued by ANY recipe that uses eight lemons and six whole heads of garlic. Not cloves but heads!! Wow!
Yum.
I wish there was some kind of additional seasoning, like cayenne.
Something to kick it up a notch. ;)
Still, I'd love to give this a try!
I make it a rule never to eat anything with the legs and/or other appendages still attached. I'm also allergic to shellfish.
I don't eat any type of fish, but I have attended many a crab boil down while visiting my family in South Carolina. Looks just like the photo, newspaper and all.
Very good choice for Manic Monday!
Have a great day! :-)
Well, this is right up my alley! We love crawfish and eat it (in season) every year. We don't do our own, but one of our neighbors does and his is awesome. He is part of a team that cooks for local charity events and theirs is so good. There's tons of crawfish places here, and some even stay open year round. Most are seasonal, when the crawfish "come in".
That looks like a really good recipe. Corn and potatoes are normal, but we've had some with mushrooms and they are incredible. Yummy, now I'm hungry for crawfish! Good thing we're headed to the coast and New Orleans in just a few days, LOL!!!
Songbird, I've never eaten a crawfish either. But I have eaten shrimp and I think they are very much alike. The recipe sounds de-lish! Happy Manic Monday! :)
I've never eaten a crawfish before, either. I probably do not have the patience to pick one apart; they're kinda like lobster that way.
Unlike many of your readers, I have eaten crawfish.
Of course now I have the song, "You gotta line, I gotta pole, honey, You gotta line, I gotta pole, babe. You gotta line and I gotta pole, we'll go down to that crawdad hole, honey ba-aby mine!" stuck in my noggin.
