What's a Mother To Do?

I've never been the type of parent to do my kids' homework for them. There are some parents who love to get their hands on every science experiment, PowerPoint presentation, or art project that their kid produces, but not me.

Until now.

Last week, my son was assigned to write a report on a certain musical decade and besides giving a background on fashion and current events, he is to detail the growth and popularity of a particular rock and roll group.

Can you just guess which decade and group he picked?

C'mon, I know you can. I'll give you three hints:

  1. It's a decade with which I am very familiar
  2. The band is NOT Van Halen
  3. The artist is NOT John Mellencamp.
If you guessed the 1980s and U2, you would be correct.

Sigh.

Guess who wants to work on this project day and night?

Yeah.

Who knew I'd love homework so much?

Only three weeks left in this school year.....

Wow, that sounds like one I'd want to get involved with too! I'm with Mags, we never ever had projects or assignments that were that cool or even remotely fun. How great that he has a project that can be fun and interesting to him, and you too!

I don't like "helping" the kids do their homework either. At least your son's project was fun homework.

Put down the pen...step away from the assignment...do not do it for him you silly willy

Sandee: It will be a PowerPoint presentation, but for those who might be interested, we might share!

Katherine: He is indeed one smart boy. Sometimes too smart for his own good. *grin*

Kila: Thanks, I will! It's been fun looking at old photos.

Pamela: I just have to remember to leave out the more...uh..."colorful" parts of my past...

Mags: I know, huh? It would have made school so much more interesting!

Stacy: You can bet that I'll be helping with this one (at least the research part).

Karmyn: Yeah, for once. I mean, he's had some interested homework, but this one is the very best assignment.

Oh, and about your new status in Top Commenters? YAY!!!!!

Daddy Forever: This homework was just assigned and isn't due until May 11, so we're just getting started. Fun, fun!

Vinny: Well, I DO need to help show him where the info is, and he'll probably need help putting the PowerPoint presentation together, so I can't be 100% hands off, can I?

Can I?

Well I think you can certainly help with this one. He can interview you about the decade and about the band. That puts a terrific personal spin on the project.

And you've "helped" without actually doing the work for him.

Bond said...

OK, you can show him Powerpoint...

U2? Really???
I'm sure you'll have to help Little Man here and there... it's impossible to get your hands off this homework.

I'd love to see the outcome or parts of it, if possible and not too personal :-)

We're finally moving today - I'm waving "Goodbye" for a long time, b/c the new home doesn't have internet, yet.

We will miss you so badly - thanks for being the friend you are.

Love,
